Bang & Lessin
Bang (b. 1964, Denmark), Lessin (b. 1947, Brazil)
Louise Bang and Gui Lessin are proponents of the ‘open atelier’ concept in which the artist’s studio is placed at the centre of the hands-on conception and making of artwork. The studio is fully open to the public, inviting critical scrutiny, aesthetic dialogue and the creative exchange of information. Their influences include American Abstract Expressionism, the CoBrA movement, German contemporary abstraction, cave painting – with its zoo and anthropomorphic allusions – as well as New York and London street graffiti traditions. The duo believe in an art that is at the service of society and respectful of the environment in which we live. Bang & Lessin stand by works executed with archival substrata, using the best quality materials available. All pieces are original and one-of-a-kind. Louise Bang & Gui Lessin are artists who take their collaborative work and practice as a life-long commitment. Their careers began in New York in the 80's: today they are based in their new studio in Sjællands Odde, Denmark.
