William Bakaimo
b.1990
Bakaïmo is a Cameroonian contemporary painter. He was raised in the North-West of Cameroon, which he has described as giving him both creative space and the sense of isolation that shaped his early artistic reflections. Bakaïmo’s work is centred around what he describes as his “dreamlike bestiary” — a world in which humans are not quite human, animals are not quite animals, and hybrid figures roam an arc-like “Noah’s ark” of imagination.
His canvases often explore themes of transformation, renewal, and hope rising from darkness. He situates his personal journey against broader social and political contexts — for example, the effect of terrorism in Africa, the plight of children, and the interplay between memory, environment, and identity.
