Kay Seohyung-Lee
b. 1995 Seoul, Korean
She grew up right next to the US Army Garrison Yongsan Base, in a neighborhood saturated with traces of the Korean War. Absurdity, chaos, and solitude inspire and drive her practice.
Lee's work is a map of her desires and despairs. Her inside jokes with the world, snippets of current social imagery, and countless bruises and cuts she gained during her lifetime live together harmoniously in the
strange scapes Lee creates.
Lee earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2018 and her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021. She currently lives in Philadelphia, where she works as a part-time lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University, Camden.
